“The New Science of Learning:  How to Learn in Harmony with Your Brain,” by Terry Doyle and Todd Zakrajsek, was written to help students find and implement ways to become better learners. Chapter 8, “Paying Attention”, specifically focuses on attention spans and ways to improve learning. The focus of this chapter is to propose ways that students can increase their learning, be better engaged, and get the most out of their lessons, even if the subject matter is boring.

The article “Racism on the Rise in Australia: migrants report cultural shift” by Cosima Marriner in the Sidney Morning from April 6, 2014 explains the current situation of racism in Sydney. Racism is becoming very common is Australia, from being harassed on public transport, not getting a job interview to regularly being asked about your origin and when did you move here? Even though the death penalty is abolished in the majority of the countries of the world, in some countries it is still in effect as of today. I believe that this is something that should be changed in the world, and even though major progresses have been made about this situation, it is still an important ethical problem.

As the definition of a nation develops, people with the same history, language, culture and religion, tend to form a nation in the same geographical territory. Like the Muslims in Pakistan and the Hindus in India, the French speakers are installed in Quebec while the English speakers are in the rest of the Canada. However, contrary to the Muslims, the French speakers are still in the same country than the English speakers. To that effect, the Quebecers did not reach the independence like the Muslims did. However, both nations had their own leader to follow.

Quebec has always been known for its cultural and religious diversity; housing thousands of men and women from around the world that all have different beliefs and values. Montreal alone is filled with different ethnic and religious communities who all contribute to the development of our city. To say that religion should have no role in society is absurd when living in the 21st century. It affects everyone politically, financially and socially.

Today, we are living in a society where freedom and equality are both important values. In our multucultural society, we need to accept each other and respect their beliefs. I think that religion in our society must be respected, but she should never inluence or rule a government. The state should be in a neutral position, because it represents everybody, which is jude catholic or muslim. A country where the state is neutral and where religions don`t rule the governement is more free and democra  tic, because the population is never influenced or controled by the religion.
