The article "Discrimination During Adolescence has lasting effects on body”, published by Northwestern University on Science Daily (September 9th, 2015), addresses a study that links the level of cortisol, a stress hormone released by the body, with the accumulation of perceived discrimination over lifetime. In fact, researchers have followed white and black adolescents from age twelve to 32 by measuring the discrimination they perceive as well as their levels of cortisol for seven days when they became adults.

                In the article “5 Facts Explaining America’s Enduring Racial Divide” by Ian Bremmer published June 29th 2015 in Time Inc., it is understood that for my people of color, America is divided in two; a racial divide that has been going on for centuries. According to the comparison of various statistics around the world, black America struggles to meet the goal of equality. Bremmer blames 5 different factors for such a divide; education, wealth, health, incarceration and violence.

In the article “Racially Disparate Views of New Orleans’s Recovery after Hurricane Katrina” by Campbell Robertson published August 24th 2015 in The New York Times, it is understood that the repercussions of Hurricane Katrina are still visible today. However, Robertson mainly focuses on the racial disparities and variations in the views of the level of recovery between the different ethnic groups from the area.

“The Meaning of Serena Williams”, an article written by Claudia Rankine that was published on August 25th 2015 in the New York Times, discusses the biased opinions of the media with regards to the ideal image of a winner. The main arguments supporting this central idea involve Serena Williams’ view on the widespread issue of racism and the medias’ interpretation of excellence.  Although the media has attacked her with regards to her appearance on countless occasions, Williams does not accept “racist projections” about her body.
