Heroin is in and Hoffman’s out

Since the death of 46 year old actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, the cause of death was suspected to be murder related. Four individuals were arrested, while searching for whomever sold the drugs to Hoffman, Wednesday the fifth of February on charges of possession and distribution of controlled substances. Among the drugs there were more than 350 bags of heroin that were seized.

Not smoking… please!

Smoking can affect more than one life. For example, if you are pregnant, it can affect your baby’s health. Consequently, the baby can be premature, and this is really bad for the baby’s development.

In the article “Smoking ban in public places has cut the number of premature births” we realize reductions of premature births. Before the bans no decrease was evident in premature births. With this law, other factors have been reducing such as air pollution.

Food Addiction the New Scourge

Going to grocery store while you’re hungry isn’t a good idea, everything seems to be better. In our society, the alimentation is now the target of marketing. The sizes, the colors everything is changed to make you buy a lot of food and have what it's called a food addiction.

Fish Exposed to Anti-Anxiety Medication: Abnormal Behaviour

Pam Belluck’s article from The New York Times posted on Feb 14th2013 reports that researchers in Sweden found that traces of anxiety drugs in waterways affected fish behavior. When European perch were exposed to different concentrations of Oxazepam, they “became less social, more active and ate faster” than usual.

Skin cancer banned for Quebec teenagers

On Sunday the 10th of February 2013, Quebec became officially Canada’s second province to ban the use of tanning beds for teenagers and young adults under the age of eighteen. The first province to take the lead in this field is Nova Scotia who banned the access to tanning bed for people who have not reached the age of nineteen.

When you hear people talk about heart disease, what comes to mind? Most people automatically assume that the people that are associated with this disease or that have this disease are obese or of different race (primarily African-Americans). I feel that people don’t take into consideration that this disease can affect everyone. Heart disease can consist of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), a myocardial infarction (heart attack), Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Atrial Fibrillation (A-Fib) and hypertension.
