Comparing Canada and India

One would think that Canada and India have nothing in common because they have different cultures and are far apart from each other, but when we take a closer look, we see some similarities. For one thing, both countries where colonised by Great Britain. Moreover, both countries had to decide whether to divide one of their provinces in two or not. The Constitutional Act, which “reformed the government of the province of Quebec to accommodate the 10,000 English-speaking settlers, known as the United Empire Loyalists, who had arrived from the United States following the Revolution”, caused the division of Quebec in two (The Upper and Lower Canada). On the other hand, India choose not to separate Bengal because the INC were in disfavor of the separation. They believed it would have created conflict between the Hindus and Muslims. So effectively, both India and Canada had to go through the same situation.
