Our Oceans' secret

by alexandregarceau on October 23, 2013 - 11:54am

Our oceans are all being exposed to chemical garbage every day since the early 1800’s. In addition, oceans are absorbing about a third of humans’ daily emissions. This is an alarming situation. We need to act or our actions will bring our ocean to a level of acidity that would just be impossible to readjust.

In this article, the author stipulates that the level of acidity in our oceans is something to be alarmed of. Our precious seas are indeed starting to be destroyed from the inside. Why? CO2 emissions! Oceans absorb a third of human’s CO2 emissions which represent about 22 million tons a day. Statistics even tell us that the acidity in our oceans increased by 20% in only two decades! PH is being count by a scale of 0 to 14 (7 being neutral). Normally our oceans’ PH level is at 8.2, but because we pollute since the early 1800’s, it is now at 8.1. That change is a huge difference for that little amount of time. I wish that everyone reading my article took just a little 5 minutes out of their day to read the article attached to this one. It will spread the word about oceans being completely destroyed and all because of us. In addition, oceans are actually saving us from global warming by absorbing a third of our emissions. I think it is time to give back at them. For more information just go on http://www.nationalgeographic.com/ .

The worse thing about it is that humans haven't even explored the ocean and we don't even know what we’re wasting. We have only discovered a fraction of the ocean. No one has actually gone to the very bottom of the ocean. We as humans are slowly destroying everything. We used to have a lot more fish in the ocean before and with all the fish we kill it affects the rest of the animals in the sea. Apart from that like you said we are adding pollution to the waters that we feed from!
