A man who shows the example

Our world needs to be improve in the sportive way. There are still too many children that are not playing any sport and stay inside to play videogames. If we look at a study made by the University College London, it proves that young children are not doing enough physical activities. They studied 7,000 children and they confirmed that the level of physical activity was too low. The researchers installed an accelerometer on every child to evaluate their level of physical activity, their number of steps and if they were sedentary or no. The study showed that no more than 52% of the children, considering all the UK, are doing 60 minutes of physical activity per day (Weston, par 13). This is why every country needs leaders to help to promote the sports.  At least, we have some important leaders in the world that can make a difference. We are lucky because we have one of these leaders in Quebec that is working so hard to promote the sports in schools and in families. Pierre Lavoie is the man that I am talking about. He is becoming more famous every year because of the activities that he proposes to promote the sport.

The reason why he decided to do make a difference in schools in Quebec is that he lost two children in three years of the same rare hereditary illness that is mostly present Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean. He decided to involve in research to find a remedy and understand why he lost his children. He also wanted help the parents that were in the same situation. His objective is to promote the sport simply because he believes that a healthy lifestyle begins with physical activity. What is amazing with this person is not only that he promotes the sport, but also he is doing what he promotes. He represents something that he can do and he is like a model for children and teenagers. Pierre has participated several times to the Hawaii Ironman, so he is considered like an engaged athlete. He organized the Défi Pierre Lavoie in Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean for the first time in 1999. The objective was to complete a 650 km in cycling during 24 hours. Now the Défi is a 1000 km, the racers begin in Saguenay, and they have to go to Montreal. There is also the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie, which includes high schools, colleges and universities. Students are leaving from Quebec and go to Montreal in running. Pierre is organizing all this to promote the sport in schools and to raise money for his foundation for rare illness. Participating to the Défi is incredibly motivating because you are not training alone. You have the whole team that encourages everybody during the training, but also during the Défi. I can tell you because I already participated to the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie, which was an amazing experience that I will never forget. After this whole weekend of running, you feel different. You feel you did a difference in the world and for you. Nobody see the importance of physical activity the same way than before after doing that. It is crazy for the body, but also for the mind. Pierre Lavoie is an important sportive leader that can make a difference in our life if we listen at what he says and we are very lucky to have a devoted person like him here in Quebec.
